Consider The Holo Series Kristy Acevedo 9781631630583 Books

I follow Kristy Acevedo on Twitter, so I've been eagerly awaiting her debut novel. I don't think I've ever read a novel with a main character who suffers from an anxiety disorder. This felt real and well-written, and I LOVE that Acevedo doesn't gloss over the difficulties created by Alexandra's anxiety disorder. I also love seeing the various ways her friends and family respond to her anxiety.

The plot itself is well handled and moves forward at a good pace. Acevedo does a good job showing how the imminent destruction of the world affects society as well as individuals, and she manages to bring up some interesting human rights issues as well as political and religious ones. The subplot involving Alex's brother Benji is both fun and touching, and Alex's complicated relationship with her dad is also fascinating to explore.

The ending took me by surprise, but felt like it fit the story perfectly. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Consider The Holo Series Kristy Acevedo 9781631630583 Books Reviews

This book was really interesting, although I found the pacing to be somewhat slow. Maybe I just wanted to get to the end to find out whether or not she went through the vertex, but the mundane-ness of them trying to keep on with "normal" lives got a bit grating. The ending was top shelf, however. I'm rarely surprised by book endings, but this one blindsided me. Well done!
Kristy Acevedo's Consider is a punch in the gut in the best way possible. I had trouble putting the book down in order to live my life and one night, reading well past my bedtime, I actually forgot that the problem of the book--a ten-mile-wide comet heading toward Earth--was actually fictional. That's the kind of novel this is. It looks at how humans adapt, how societies thrive, and how we interact with one another. At turns hilarious and terrifying, heartbreaking and heart-warming, Consider should be the YA book of summer 2016. I loved it, plain and simple.
I would guess that if you had anxiety problems, etc. as the main character, this would be an excellent book to read. It incorporates her thoughts that seem to take over her life, cause the anxiety attacks & describes the aftermath. Granted, this is rare in a book and would be affirmation to those with the same problems. However, I don't have these issues and thus it was slow, boring, predictable and I won't even finish reading the other 40%.
First I'd like the appropriate age range for this gem to change from 12 to 18 to 12 +. I'm 58 and couldn't put it down. It was cathartic to me as a lapsed Catholic/new atheist/scared of missing out on heaven. Even though this is in no way about religion as a whole.
I went back and forth if I would take the leap. What made me buy the book after reading a reviewer who was excited about the end. I love a great ending. I can't wait for the next one. I give myself a treat ever month with one book because of an extremely limited income. I've regretted many. This I will think about for my forever. I recommend this to everyone.
Excellent book. I loved Alex's POV and the thoughts going through her head. I can only imagine the layers of emotions her situation at home and then with the world potentially falling apart would add to her anxiety. The relationships between all the characters were well fleshed out.

Loved the questions and answers from the holograms. There was a lot to grab the imagination reading this book. The ending, even knowing this was part of a series, was very satisfying. Didn't see it playing out like it did but very pleased. Can't wait for the next book.
As only an experienced high school teacher could do, Kristy Acevedo has plunged into the complicated mind of a female adolescent. Her protagonist, Alex, not only suffers from the burdens of a dysfunctional family, she navigates through her developmental years with severe anxiety disorder. In a particularly crucial metaphor for our current politically uncertain and dangerous times, Acevedo's multi-faceted characters are faced with a reality shattering scenario which requires an absolute decision. CONSIDER is a wicked cool YA dystopian sci-fi ride through Southcoast Massachusetts and beyond! I cannot wait to read the sequel! . . . Judy Ripley
Consider is a unique gem in the treasure chest of YA apocalyptic sci-fi thrillers. What makes this book so exciting is the fact that the plot, which is full of twists and action, is not just about the rollercoaster ride. It is about weighing decisions, finding your strengths, accepting what and who is most important to you and realizing your true potential.

From my description, this novel may sound more introspective, and less thriller. But don't be fooled. Acevedo's measured pacing, flawed but loveable characters, and witty dialog, make for a perfect melding of thought-provoking themes and heart-racing action.

And the ending...oh, the ending! I haven't felt that revved up by a conclusion since reading Lord of the Flies. You will definitely want to pre-order the sequel, Contribute. I did.
