Poet Muriel Rukeyser once said, “The universe is made up of stories, not atoms.” I had this quote in mind the entire time I was reading Girl Power in the Age of Millennials, and every moment since completing it. I love this quote because it speaks to the interconnectedness of the intellectual, the emotional, the social, and the spiritual – just as Girl Power in the Age of Millennials does. This book, a collection of Christine Horansky’s stories and reflections, is evidence of the above quote’s truth.

I feel that the best books are the ones that transform you while and after you read them, and Girl Power in the Age of Millennials certainly did that for me. This book made me challenge my preconceived perceptions of my generation, and inspired me in ways that I didn’t think were possible. Through her relatable and genuine prose, Christine Horansky reminds us of the power that stories and writing have to bring people together, and to bring about social change. As Horansky herself says in the book, “Change the story, change the world.” Sharing our stories is an empowering process that opens doors to countless possibilities. Relatedly, this book is a reminder to scholars and activists of the necessity of bringing one’s full self into one’s work. I felt so connected to Christine Horansky the whole time I was reading this book, and I am proud of her for having the courage to bring her full self into her work. I would recommend this beautiful piece of work to everyone – millennials and non-millennials alike.

Absolutely incredible, best selling book. A new favorite and one of the best I've ever read. There is something for everyone in it. The discussion of Hillary Clinton is a reminder of what a powerful and game changing woman this country is blessed to have. Uplifting content that includes the exploration into the importance of men in the lives of women and the stories of Sara Potler LaHayne, founder of Move This World, and Malala Yousafzai.

For anyone who is looking to educate themselves on the issues, challenges and possibilities that women encounter globally, this is a fantastic place to start. Through the essays collected in this text, Christine is able to transform complex and nuanced challenges facing women into relatable and empowering messages of action and hope. Not an easy task.

Christine does what great writers do, shine a spotlight on a piece of the world that maybe you hadn't seen before, and help you see why you should feel the urge to act. I highly recommend this book to not only people who come to the table informed on the issues, but also anyone who senses that there's a lot more to "women's issues" than meets the eye.
Christine Horansky's collection of essays is bold and powerful, yet easily approachable, personable, and digestible. This is an excellent read for someone who is just starting to learn about the global issues women face and the ways they are rising to the challenges, or for someone who has read a lot about these issues but wants to examine them from a different voice, in a different format.
Christine Horansky's "Girl Power in the Age of Millennials" is required reading for anybody interested in seeing how feminism is lived and thought about by women who came of age with 3rd wave feminism. For me, the highlight chapter of the informative and clearly written e-book is "How a Millennial Generation Came of Age," where Horansky makes the following bold statement

"As products of [the era of the internet], we were forced to think globally from a young age. Lightning fast communication technologies made us more interconnected and socially aware. Trying to find employment a flattened world, we studied harder and longer to compete for our jobs. Beginning our careers in the throes of a recession, we learned to become more entrepreneurial, strategic, and adaptable in order to succeed."

Where some writers use this age of digital connectedness to rankle the bigoted opponents of feminism, Horansky uses her e-book as an engaging and optimistic platform. As a former education director for the World Bank and avid Hillary Clinton supporter, she energetically describes the thrill of international engagement and electoral politics.
