I am a big fan of Kat Martin and have read every single one of her contemporary novels. However, this one is extraordinarily fantastic. Ms. Martin uses her writing skills to create more tension and apprehension than usual. In fact, the “bad guys” are especially evil and/or self-centered.

In the author’s last book, Into the Fury, Megan O’Brien and Dirk Reynolds were secondary characters and easily caught my attention. So I was excited to learn that they are the main characters in this book. Megan O’Brien and Dirk Reynolds are no longer together. However, they, now, meet again when Megan’s son is kidnapped, and she goes to Dirk for help.

The nice part is that I already have strong feelings about Megan and Dirk. Their relationship had been loving and passionate before, and I already loved them as a couple. Therefore, when I began this book, I felt like I was reading about old friends, and was already rooting for their happy ending.

This romantic suspense has many so many twists and turns that I had trouble putting the book down. There were several times when I was sure the story was over except for the happy ending. Then, I would continue reading only to discover that there were even more problems. I loved it!!

This is the second book in the BOSS, Inc series, and can be read as a stand-alone since the author does a wonderful job of explaining the back story. However, the reader will, definitely, enjoy the book more if she reads Into the Fury first.

I highly recommend this book!

I like the Raines brothers. They are macho men and not afraid to show it, but they also adore and protect the women they love, nor are they threatened by their women's success and intelligence. Gabe has a heart as big as Texas and a work ethic that's made him successful. Mattie is successful and independent, but has some hang-ups that are stumbling blocks to their relationship. I would have enjoyed less explicit sex, which I skipped because it detracted from the story.
The plot is good but the villian doesn't appear until late in the story which eliminates the reader's chance to guess whodunnit. An arsonist burns one of Gabe's construction sites and a teen is arrested. Mattie defends the boy and persuades Gabe to look deeper. He is attracted to Mattie and figures that's a way to see her again. The story is sweet and romantic. A fun read
This is the 6th book in the series. The first 3 were about the Raines Brothers. This last set have revolved around ex-military men who who now work for a private-investigator firm.

Sage Dumont works for her grandfather in Houston at Marine Drilling International. She has worked hard to work her way up in the company based on her job performance and not her last name. She thinks she has the perfect job and is engaged to the perfect man. She manages to land a deal to negotiate buying a drilling platform from a Sheik in Saudi Arabia. If she manages to get the deal she is hoping for a promotion to President.

Sage's grandfather knows there could be potential trouble by bringing a Saudi family into Houston. So he hires Atlas Security to help during the negotiation. Jake Cantrell used to be in Special Forces. He is very familiar with Middle Eastern protocols. He wants Jake to help Sage through the negotiations helping with the proper protocols in dealing with the Sheik and offering any protection should it be needed.

Sage isn't happy about having a bodyguard around but recognizes that she doesn't know how to act and speak around the Sheik and doesnt want to offend him or his family that he is also bringing. She also isn't happy about the strong sexual attraction she feels for this big brute of a man, after all she is engaged to a nice man who is what she thinks society would expect her to marry.

Jake is also very attracted to Sage but doesn't mess with engaged women. So he decides he is just going to do his job in teaching Sage what she needs to know for the Sheik's visit and providing protection duty.

Things don't quite go as planned though.. There is a bombing, drug trafficking, internal conflict between the Sheik and his daughter.

The romance between Sage and Jake was hot and didn't develop too soon. I think the author also did a fantastic job of showing the Saudi's customs for both the men and the women.

The best part was finding out she is going to write another 3 books in this series. We got to meet Alex and Sabrina in this book and their book is sure to be full of fireworks between these two.
I really like this author and have read most of her books, especially the series starring the Raines and the Brodies. So I didn't hesitate to purchase the BOSS, Inc. series. Into the Whirlwind captured my interest from the first. The characters in this book were first introduced in the previous book of this series Into the Fury. BOSS, Inc. is an agency of private investigators considered the best in the business. Dirk Reynolds is one of these investigators. In the past, Meg sent him away. Now she needs him, and only him, more than ever. Her son Charlie has been kidnapped. Will these two be able to work together to save Charlie and themselves as well. I do recommend that the reader start with the first book before reading this one to have a better grasp on the characters although this book can be read as a stand-alone.
….but not gripping either.

Had its good moments but didn't really persuade me as I believe to have read better books from this author.

In any case, the book had its good and even its excellent moments. I very much enjoyed how Dirk and Megan tried to warm up their relationship and how they tried to work through the different issues they faced. I also loved Megan's son's presence, as this seemed to be a ”normal“ yet so charming child. The scenes were the little kid was involved were very sweet without being too exaggerated.

The plot was nothing u usual but it was nicely developed and ended in a very rewarding HEA.

Maybe I should've read book 1 in the series first to have a better grasp of the atmosphere of the book.

In any case, an entertaining and nice story.
