I think the time & money I've spent reading this book was well invested.
This is not a guide for “wanna-be-authors”. Or for “established-authors”. No, this is a book that targets the audience in-between. It is meant for those who have just finished their manuscript and are in the process of “editing” or “sending” it to publishers.
I found it very useful. No word-building. No bla blabla x 300 pages or so!!! It's just an intensive list that highlights what mistakes to look for and how to correct them, you know, all the little things that separate a professional manuscript from just another amateur’s work.
I can see now exactly where I did i go wrong with my manuscript. The structure! The dialogue! The POV! Oh, especially the POV, mine is totally messed up >.<

Just picked it up, because I’m revising a novel that needs some help. May Dawney’s writing is excellent, so I’m glad she put this out.
I would recommend this book to any writer. The author gives examples of various writing violations, how to find them, and how to fix them. It's a simple but effective way to improve any manuscript. Highly recommend!
I'm an author of non-fiction and am hoping to make the switch to fiction soon. I picked this book up to get some tips and insights to help my writing. I am so happy I did! The whole book centers around the importance of creating that wonderful flow state where a reader doesn't feel like they are reading, but rather are in the book. Instead of going on and on about the importance of flow and giving vague recommendations like I'm used to in these types of books, this book is incredibly practical. It goes through 7 common writing mistakes authors make that interrupt flow (with multiple before and after examples) and then provides different ways to correct the mistakes and how to find them in your book. These writing mistakes are subtle things, but I could see from her examples how it could make a huge difference in how a person connects with your story.

This is one of those books you will reference over and over again. I know I will be going back and reading chapters as I write and edit.
Excellent guidance for the would be writer whether publishing the indie or traditional route.
Definitely a book to have on your shelf.
